TOWARDS A BELOVED COMMUNITY: FACING RACISM Sept. 2015

We will never really confront racism if we continue to view it as an "issue," says the Very Rev. Mike Kinman, dean of Christ Church Cathedral, St. Louis. In his blog post following Sandra Bland's death July 12 in a Waller, Texas jail, Kinman challenged those with privilege and power to make racism "personal" in order to effect real change.

The Holy Land is sacred to half of humanity. My own pilgrimage last September renewed my curiosity for Scripture and the people of this place, its conflicts, its holy sites. Jerusalem is a city of the Pentecost, we are told, where each faith-Jew, Christian and Muslim-received the message of God in their own language, an epicenter of faith.

The Diocese of Texas welcomed thousands of students this August in preschools, elementary, and middle and high schools. Piles and piles of backpacks have been blessed and, during the year, Episcopalians will mentor students in hundreds of classrooms and teach them in even more.
